What is the Data Innovation Summit?
The Data Innovation Summit is the largest annual applied data, analytics and AI event in the Nordics, and one of the most comprehensive of its kind in Europe. Hyperight has organised it in Stockholm every year since 2016. The first edition brought together 260 people from 120 Nordic companies around one simple idea: how to innovate through data. A decade later, the summit gathers more than 3,500 practitioners, leaders and innovators from over 50 countries and more than 1,000 organisations. Its slogan has never changed.
What sets the summit apart is that it is applied by design. Most of the programme is delivered by people who build, run and govern data and AI systems inside companies and public organisations, rather than by people selling those systems. Delegates come for case studies that show what worked, what failed and what created measurable value. They leave with practical ideas they can use the following week.
What is the theme for 2027?
The 2027 theme is “From Data & AI to Enterprise Capability”. It responds to one of the clearest patterns in today’s enterprise landscape. Almost every organisation now uses AI in some form, yet very few get substantial business value from it. McKinsey’s 2026 State of AI survey found that 88% of organisations use AI regularly, but only 37% attribute any impact on earnings to it. Adoption is moving much faster than value creation.
Hyperight describes this moment as the Age of Applied Intelligence. Intelligence itself is becoming widely accessible. The difference between organisations is now their ability to apply it: engineering reliable systems, providing trusted data and context, redesigning workflows, governing increasingly autonomous AI, and helping people work effectively alongside it. The 2027 programme is built around exactly that work. It also makes a broader point: the real promise of AI is not only doing the same work faster or cheaper, but making it possible to do things that were not possible before.
How is the 2027 programme structured?
The summit runs over three days and is split into two parts. The Foundation Days, on 18 and 19 May, cover the capabilities that every organisation needs regardless of sector. They run across ten stages:
- Machine Learning, Agents & Generative AI
- Data Engineering & DataOps
- Data Platform & Architecture
- Data Strategy & Governance
- Analytics & Decision Intelligence
- AI Strategy & Governance
- AI Infrastructure & Operations
- AI Automation & Transformation
- Databases, Context & Data Quality
- Industrial & Physical AI Spotlight, a new stage that takes AI from the digital world into factories, machines and robotics.
The Industry Day, on 20 May, moves from capabilities to applications. Its five sector stages show how data and AI create value in specific industries:
- Finance, Telecom & Digital Services
- Manufacturing, Energy & Utilities
- Retail, E-commerce & Logistics
- Gaming, Media & Entertainment
- Public Sector, Healthcare & Education
Industry Day also includes hands-on hackathons and masterclasses.
Around the stages, the summit offers several formats that reward active participation:
- Workshops: seven rooms of 100-minute sessions, limited to 24 people each.
- Executive Round Tables: CDO and CAIO groups of up to 32 senior leaders.
- Technology in Practice: more than 300 live demo sessions at exhibitor stands in the expo.
The evenings are part of the programme as well. The Expo Crawl and the DAIR Awards ceremony take place on the first evening, and the Data After Dark networking party on the second.
Who attends?
The summit is deliberately designed for both technical and business audiences. On the technical side, it draws data scientists, ML and AI engineers, data engineers, architects and database specialists. On the leadership side, it draws Chief Data Officers, Chief AI Officers, CIOs, CISOs, analytics leaders, AI product owners and transformation leaders. Industry Day adds business and domain experts from across the five sectors.
Bringing these groups together is intentional. Building AI into an enterprise is not something engineers, governance teams or business leaders can do alone. The summit gives them a shared space to understand each other’s constraints and priorities.
What makes DIS different from other conferences?
Many conferences either go deep on a single vendor’s platform or stay at the level of broad keynotes.
The Data Innovation Summit takes a different path.
First, its programme is problem-led. Sessions are framed as the questions practitioners need answered, such as how to make AI agents accurate rather than merely confident, or how to prove AI value before the CFO defers the next investment.
Second, it combines breadth and depth. Fifteen stages cover the full data and AI value chain under one roof, so a whole team can attend together and each person finds content relevant to their role.
Third, it is a true hybrid event. Every session is streamed live and stays available on demand for five weeks, so nothing is lost to a schedule clash.
Finally, the summit is part of a year-round community. That community includes the DAIR Awards, the AIAW Podcast and regional editions in Dubai, Singapore and Sydney.
