Industry Day 2027: How Applied AI Plays Out in Five Sectors

Quick Facts

• Industry Day: 20 May 2027, Kistamässan, Stockholm. This is its second edition.
• Five stages: Finance, Telecom & Digital Services | Manufacturing, Energy & Utilities | Retail, E-commerce & Logistics | Gaming, Media & Entertainment | Public Sector, Healthcare & Education
• Also on the day: hackathons, masterclasses and the expo
• Opening keynote theme: “Trust Is the New Divide”

Why AI needs an industry lens

The same AI technology behaves very differently in a bank, a factory, a retailer and a hospital. Regulation, legacy systems, physical operations, customer expectations and public accountability all decide which use cases succeed and which stay stuck as pilots. Advice that sounds convincing in general often falls apart when it meets the realities of a particular sector.

Industry Day at the Data Innovation Summit exists to close that gap. Held on 20 May 2027, the third day of the summit moves the conversation from what AI can do to what it is actually changing in each industry. It is designed for both business leaders and the technical teams who must make AI work in their sector’s specific conditions. It opens with a keynote under the theme “Trust Is the New Divide”, reflecting the view that the next phase of AI depends on people, leadership and technology moving together.

Finance, Telecom & Digital Services

Financial services and telecommunications are among the most data-intensive industries in the world, and among the most heavily regulated. In 2027, the leading questions concern how to scale AI agents across banking operations without losing compliance or customer trust, how to reinvent claims handling and underwriting, and how to build autonomous telecom networks that optimise and repair themselves. Fighting AI-powered fraud and scams is a growing priority too.

The central tension is between high expectations and measurable results. Many institutions expect fast returns, yet a large share still cannot measure the value their AI investments deliver, and regulators treat explainability as non-negotiable.

Manufacturing, Energy & Utilities

Industrial companies are moving AI from analytics into physical operations. Key topics for 2027 include:

  • scaling industrial AI from single pilots to many plants
  • moving from predictive to prescriptive maintenance
  • digital twins
  • AI for grid optimisation and renewable integration
  • edge AI for real-time decisions on the factory floor

Manufacturers report clear value from AI, yet only a minority of their use cases have been scaled across the enterprise. Closed-loop systems that sense, decide and act on their own are still early. That makes this the frontier to watch, and it is why the 2027 summit has also added an Industrial & Physical AI Spotlight stage to the Foundation Days.

Retail, E-commerce & Logistics

Retail is being reshaped by a change that would have sounded like science fiction a few years ago: AI agents are starting to shop on behalf of customers. Retailers now have to prepare for “agentic commerce”, in which agents discover, compare and buy products, alongside AI-driven search that is quickly becoming the first step in many shopping journeys. The stage also covers real-time personalisation, dynamic pricing, demand forecasting, intelligent inventory and fulfilment, and the move towards autonomous logistics and smart warehouses.

Gaming, Media & Entertainment

Creative industries face some of the most visible changes from generative AI, and some of the most difficult questions. The 2027 programme explores:

  • AI-native games in which characters and worlds adapt to each player
  • generative AI across content production
  • new forms of personalisation and recommendation
  • how to protect creators, brands and audiences from deepfakes and synthetic media

Questions of copyright, ownership and compensation are central. Adoption is growing while many creators remain sceptical, so this stage deliberately keeps human creativity at the centre of the conversation.

Public Sector, Healthcare & Education

Public organisations are adopting AI quickly, often informally, while impact measurement and governance struggle to keep up. The 2027 stage explores:

  • AI-powered public services designed around citizens
  • AI agents for case management and administrative work
  • clinical decision support and reducing administrative burden in healthcare
  • personalised learning in education

Above all, it asks how to use AI in high-stakes decisions without losing transparency, accountability, human oversight or digital sovereignty.

Why technical professionals should attend Industry Day

It would be easy to see Industry Day as a business-only event. In practice, the hardest requirements for any AI system come from the sector it serves. Engineers and architects who hear directly how domain experts define value, risk and success build better systems. Business leaders who understand the technical constraints make better investment decisions. That is why Industry Day is designed to be valuable for technical and business leaders alike, and why it is where these two perspectives meet around the same problems.

About the Data Innovation Summit

The Data Innovation Summit is the largest and most influential annual applied data, analytics and AI event in the Nordics, organised by Hyperight in Stockholm since 2016. The 12th edition, DIS2027X2, takes place on 18–20 May 2027 at Kistamässan in Stockholm under the theme “From Data & AI to Enterprise Capability”.

The summit brings together more than 3,500 practitioners, business leaders, technology providers, start-ups and academics from over 50 countries. The programme runs across fifteen stages: two Foundation Days dedicated to data, analytics and AI capabilities, and an Industry Day covering five sectors.
The summit is a hybrid event, with every session streamed live and available on demand.

Regional editions are held in Dubai, Singapore and Sydney.
